Myths About Christianity, Scholars Argue If Jesus Existed?

Christians around the world almost universally agree that Jesus existed but some scholars claim that the Jesus was no more than a myth and created for a “teaching story.” The main accounts of the life and teachings of Jesus are third party narratives written years after his death. The Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2002 Edition, says, These independent accounts (regarding references made by historians to Jesus and the Christians) prove that in ancient times even the opponents of Christianity never doubted the historicity of Jesus.

The evidence for Jesus’ existence

In 2006, the book Jesus and Archaeology said: “No reputable scholar today questions that a Jew named Jesus son of Joseph lived; most readily admit that we know a considerable amount about his actions and his basic teachings.”

Christ Myth Theory

Christ Myth Theory is a proposition that or that if he did, he had virtually nothing to do with the founding of Christianity and the accounts in the gospels. It is also important to recognize that in A.D. 70 the Romans invaded and destroyed Jerusalem and most of Israel, killing its inhabitants. Entire cities were burned to the ground. We should not be surprised, then, if much evidence of Jesus’ existence was destroyed. Many of the eyewitnesses of Jesus would have been killed. These facts likely limited the amount of surviving eyewitness testimony of Jesus.
