3 days ago when Narendra Modi met President of USA, Donald Trump he presented many gifts to him as a gesture of good friendship ties between the two countries. Narendra Modi was given a red carpet welcome at the White House with Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump. In his gifts to Donald Trump, Modi gifted a folio containing the 1965 dated original commemorative postal stamp, issued to mark the death centenary of Abraham Lincoln.
Along with that, he also gifted him a wooden chest with intricate inlay pattern made by Rupan Matharu and his son Kamaljeet Matharu from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India. The father-son duo is already awarded National Artisan award. This wooden chest is made from Sheesham Tree’s black wood and is 22 inches long and 15 inches wide. It took 7 months to make this wooden chest which gives a royal feel. This chest was made in the year 2016 and bought by PM’s officials from Central Cottage Industry at 1.75 Lakh Rupees.
Modi also presented First Lady Melania Trump a hamper which included a traditional, handcrafted Himachali silver bracelet, tea and honey from Kangra and hand-woven shawls from Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
