In the video, managing editor of NDTV Sunil Saini explains why it is important for news channels to do this bathtub shit.
- In order to run a news channel, a lot of investment is needed.
- People pay Rs 150 per month for newspapers, but just Rs 2 on news channels.
When a news channel send a reporter to another state to cover a news, they have to spend,
Rs 10,000 on flight tickets
Rs 500 per day on daily allowance
Rs 4000 for local taxi
Rs 1000 extra expenses
The cost of reporting 1 story comes to around 15,000. The yearly cost of channel distribution is somewhere between 30-40 crores.
It’s all about TRP
TRP numbers are very important as it fetches advertisers. And with them, news channels get the required revenue.
Author’s take: The news also depends on what the viewers want to see. Sridevi’s death has been undoubtedly the most important thing in India for the last 4 days but media has to understand their responsibility. There are many major tracks across the globe which the Indian media has missed and they all were worthy of getting citizens’ attention.
