Netflix is set to live-stream the much awaited annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards commencing in 2024. The streaming platform had taken the initiative to broadcast the ceremony live after it lost the cable networks TNT and TBS. Netflix will air this year’s on YouTube Channel and, next year, will be available for the subscribers via Netflix’s service.
“The SAG Awards are beloved by the creative community and viewers alike, and now even more fans around the world will be able to celebrate these talented actors,” Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria averred in a statement.
Nominees will be proclaimed on Wednesday and the 29th Annual SAG awards will kick off on February 26. The first ever live event will be featuring Chris Rock comedy special on March 4.
Co-CEO Ted Sarandos mentioned that in the UBS Global TMT conference in December he witnessed that that he didn’t see a “path to profitability” in sports – so might perhaps not rule out sports for the streaming services for now.
