N Chandrasekaran Swords As Tata’s New Chief Replacing Cyrus Mistry

Two and half months after astound sacking of Cyrus Mistry and recalling Ratan Tata as an interim Chairman, Tata Group’s software firm TCS chief, Natarajan Chandrasekaran has been elevated as the first non-Parsi and first professional executive chief to head $108 billion conglomerate.

Chandra as he is popularly known will take charge on February 21 and at TCS he will be succeeded by a 54-year- old Rajesh Gopinathan who currently is chief financial officer.

New Tata group chairman

According to company, The Board of Directors at its meeting on Thursday appointed N Chandrasekaran as the executive chairman and it is as per unanimous decision taken by selection committee.

Chandrasekaran was the CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services since 2009. He joined the company in 1987 and has served consistently over the seven years he has led TCS and made the firm’s profit graph line heading upwards. He is the only third non-Tata after Mistry and Nowroji Saklatwala.

R Gopalkrishanan also praised the decision of selection committee saying that he is an outstanding choice. His elevation is a tribute not only to his qualities but also to the planning and management systems of TCS.
