Nikhat Zareen clinches her second World Boxing Championship title for India

Renowned Indian boxer, Nikhat Zareen, defeated Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the 50kg summit match on Sunday to win a second world championship title.

Tam was defeated by Nikhat 5-0. She succeeds the illustrious MC Mary Kom as the only other Indian to have won the coveted title twice.

Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg) and Saweety Boora (81 kg) were named global champions on Saturday.

Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain is scheduled to compete later today, putting hosts India on track to match their best-ever performance in terms of gold medals earned.

India had taken home four gold medals in the 2006 competition, which was also the nation’s best-ever performance with a total of eight medals, including a silver.
