World’s most valued company; Apple Inc. is in final stages to open up shop in Bengaluru and will soon have ‘Made in India’ iPhones. On Thursday, the Karnataka government issued a release welcoming Apple to India and said, “Will foster cutting edge technology ecosystem and supply chain development in the state”.In December, media had reported that Apple had finalized Bengaluru as the assembling location. But neither Apple nor the government made anything official. IT Minister Priyank Kharge said in a signed release, “will foster cutting edge technology ecosystem and supply chain development in the state, which are critical for India to compete globally.”
Though, the signed release did not provide any timeline, production is estimated to start in June.
India will be the third country globally to assemble iPhones, suggesting how important world is’s fastest growing mobile market – India is to Apple.
However, Foxconn Technology was in talks in mid 2015 to manufacture Apple iPhones in India. In late 2015, Foxconn announced it would be setting up twelve factories all over the country, creating around one million jobs.Wistron, a Taiwanese, an original manufacturer of Apple, will make the iPhones out of its facility in Bengaluru.
Other states in India such as – Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana were too competing for the Apple facility.
