Amazon Prime Video has released the trailer for Regina King’s A Night in Miami. The movie is based on the play theater of the same name Kemp Powers and features Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom, Jr. ., Joaquina Kalukango, Nicolette Robinson with Beau Bridges and Lance Reddick. Oscar-winning actress King has already sparked whispers of another victory, but this time for her work as a director. A Night in Miami will begin streaming on Amazon Prime starting January 15.
A Night in Miami… takes place on an incredible night in 1964, as four icons of sport, music and activism come together to celebrate one of the biggest upheavals in boxing history . When the underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali (Eli Goree), defeated heavyweight champion Sonny Liston at Miami Convention Hall, Clay commemorated the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge). The trailer teases tonight, as well as the possibility of further Oscar nominations for its all-star cast.
Based on the award-winning play of the same name, and directed by Regina King , One Night in Miami… is a fictional tale inspired by the historic night spent together by these four formidable characters. It examines the struggles these men faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s. Over 40 years later, their conversations about racial injustice, la religion and personal responsibility still resonate. The film premiered at fall festivals last year and it already has considerable buzz behind it.
