There are so many places that are often blessed with special properties, but not always positive ones. The glory of places with negative energy is firmly established in lowlands and ravines. Due to their characteristics on a subconscious level, there is a sense of danger and associations with the other world. So lets take a look at some places that are considered as the gateway to another world.
Purgatory of St. Patrick, Ireland
It is considered that the cave on Station Island in the middle of Loch Derg in County Donegal is nothing more than a gateway to another world. According to a travelohlic legend, when Saint Patrick spent Lent in prayer on the island, Christ appeared to him. He showed him the torments of sinners and the failure through which one who has faith and repentance can end up in purgatory. The pilgrims who came here believed that after death they would be delivered from purgatory torments.presently the entrance to the cave is closed, and a chapel has been built next to it.
Gate of Pluto, Turkey
In 2013, archaeologists discovered, the ruins of a place called “Pluto’s Gate” or “Gate to the Underworld.” Geographer Strabo, who lived in the 1st century BC wrote about them that. This place is filled with vapors, that are dense and saturated. If any bird that flies in there dies instantly.” Researchers suggest that the “portal to hell” was used for sacrifices.
Darvaza, Turkmenistan
To keep harmful gases from escaping, in 1971, geologists set fire to a gas-filled void formed during the exploration of underground gas accumulations, believing that the fire would go out in a couple of days. But the flame has not gone out since then, and continuously burning day and night. Local people and travelers have nicknamed the place “The Door to Hell”.
Sibyl Cave, Italy
According to Greek mythology, the Cumaean Sibyl received as a gift from Apollo as many years of life as grains of sand fit in her palm. The soothsayer forgot to ask about eternal youth, so she gradually dried up. It is believed that the Cuma Sibyl lived in one of the caves in Cuma, near Naples. The cave of the Sibyl occupies a special place in the underworld under Kuma. And near to it is Lake Averno, which for the Romans and Greeks was the entrance to hell.
Aktun-Tunichil-Muknal, Belize
Maya caves in Belize were used for ritual ceremonies and burial of the dead. Aktun-Tunichil-Muknal cave situated in Belize is an archaeological monument of their civilization. It was this Mayan cave that was considered as the entrance to the underworld.
Mountain of Fear Osorezan, Japan
The surrounding landscape is reminiscent of descriptions of Buddhist hell and heaven, including the eight peaks and the Sanzu no Kawa River, which is crossed by dead souls on their way to the afterlife. This mountain is considered the gateway to the afterlife.
Feng Du, Fengdu County, China
Fengdu is home to a city of ghosts. It is full of shrines and temples and is considered to be the place where the devil lives. Near the city is Mount Ming Shan, which is the home of the King of the Dead Tianzi.
