Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his tribute to Brazilian footballer Pele who passed away at 82. Edson Arantes do Nascimento popularly known as Pele succumbed to cancer after a long battle.
“The passing away of Pelé leaves an irreplaceable void in the world of sports. A global football superstar, his popularity transcends boundaries. His outstanding sporting performances and success will keep inspiring the coming generations. Condolences to his family and fans. RIP,” tweeted PM Modi.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister too faced a personal loss after the passing away of his mother Hiraben at 99. Hiraben, she was shifted to Ahmedabad’s UN Mehta Hospital on Wednesday after reporting worsening health.
Pelé had a colon tumor which was extracted in September 2021. However the family and hospital have not reported that the colon have infected other organs as well. He was again admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital on Nov. 29 after facing COVID-19 and an acute respiratory infection. Previous week, the hospital reported in a statement that the cancer had advanced.
