An Indian tri-services marching contingent wowed onlookers here during the French National Day celebrations on Friday (July 14), when Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined French President Emmanuel Macron for the Bastille Day parade as the Guest of Honour.
When welcome India as the Guest of Honour at the French annual celebrations, French President Emmanuel Macron praised the nation as “a giant in world history, with a decisive role to play in the future, a strategic partner, a friend”. “1.4 billion Indians will always be grateful to France for being a strong and trusted partner,” Mr. Modi replied.
Mr. Modi praised French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron for welcoming him at the Elysee Palace on Friday (July 14), the day after receiving the Legion of accolade, France’s highest civilian and military accolade.
On Friday, July 14, Mr. Modi and Mr. Macron are scheduled to finalise and announce significant defence accords, including India’s purchase from France of three more Scorpene-class diesel-electric submarines and 26 Rafale-M jets to operate off aircraft carriers.
