Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s obsession with Gujarat may prove to counter productive both for him and for India. It seems PM Modi is acting like the “Prime Minister of Gujarat”. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited flood affected parts of Gujarat, which is also his home state and announced a relief package of Rs 500 crore for the state.
Also from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, he declared Rs 2 lakh to the family of those killed due to floods and Rs 50,000 to those seriously injured.
The PM tweeted: “Everything possible will be done to help the farmers, who suffer immensely due to floods. While reviewing the situation, I could see the Government of Gujarat responded to the flood situation quite swiftly.”
He further praised the courage of the people of Gujarat, “The people of Gujarat are blessed with a strong spirit of resilience. These floods will not impact the development journey of Gujarat.”
Flood Situation In Assam
Meanwhile, in Assam, 60,000 people are affected in districts such as Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Biswanath, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Morigaon, Golaghat and Nagaon due to floods. The total number of people losing their lives stands at 77.
There is an inter-ministerial team in Assam for the ground zero assessment of the flood situation but the central government has failed to provide the required support or assistance to the state.
