On Wednesday, the anti-human trafficking cell of Thane police raided a hotel in Kalyan where a sex racket was uncovered. The hotel, named, ” Relax Hotel and Garden” was owned by BJP corporator Nitin Patil’s wife Ranjana Patil.
Police had arrested six hotel staffers and four women, including a Bangladeshi, were rescued. Interestingly, the Bangladeshi national had a valid passport and visa.
Police have sent arrested accused, Harishchandra Shetty (57), waiters Satyanarayan Pal (42), cashier Rahul Dutt, Vigyan Shamal (35), Vijay Shetty and Ramakanat Mahant (28) to custody for three days.
According to The Times Of India, Senior police inspector of anti-human trafficking cell, Ravindra Daundkar said: “The hotel belongs to Ranjana Patil and we will call her for questioning to find out if she knew about flesh trade in her hotel.”
After receiving a tip-off, a police officer pretending to be a customer went inside the hotel, after getting confirmed about the sin, alerted fellow officers, who raided the place and arrested the staff members.
BJP corporator Nitin Patil who is the owner’s husband, in a conversation with TOI, said that they had given the hotel on rent to someone else and in the clause, they have clearly mentioned that if the hotelier is caught for any illegal work then he will be responsible for it, not the owners.
