Even years after her death, Princess Diana continues to be regarded as a fashion icon because of the iconic outfits she wore in the 1990s. The woman was well-known for playing around with her appearance and switching it up whenever she could, particularly after severing ties with the royal family. One aspect of the Princess’s appearance that the public may have noticed was her intense love of blue eyeliner. What specifically went wrong for her to cease sporting her unique style, then?
Princess Diana’s makeup artists unleash the actual reason
After many years, Princess Diana’s beauty artist finally explained why her client had stopped wearing the recognisable blue eyeliner. When Mary Greenwell spoke with Yahoo Beauty in 2017, she stated, “I think beiges and browns are just so much prettier. Simple as that.”
She further continues, “She felt no need to be showy, so she kept her makeup subtle and appropriate for the occasion.” Mary said the Princess of Wales was happy with subtle, beautiful cosmetics, but she was still determined to make sure her eyes stood out. “She loved to exaggerate her gorgeous eyes and wear loads of mascara.”
She elucidated that, “She was someone who was in the public eye presenting herself all the time to the public. It isn’t particularly appropriate to go on changing your look every five seconds.”
Further added, “I think dramatic change is not really something for somebody who’s in the White House or in office or in a royal family, as it’s just not really appropriate.”
A liking for makeup
Even though Diana had a fantastic group of makeup experts at her disposal, she nonetheless experimented with cosmetics on her own. Today, the 63-year-old stated, “She loved makeup and loved experimenting. It wasn’t to the point of going from green eyeshadow to blue eyeshadow, but just experimenting with ways to bring her eyes out more.” The artist claimed that the late royal’s goal was to “look absolutely beautiful” at all times of the day.
