In her acting career, actress Priyanka Chopra has overcome several obstacles, such as dancing in slender chiffon sarees amidst Switzerland’s snow-capped Alps. During a Film Companion Masterclass with actor Bhumi Pednekar, Priyanka discussed the allure and difficulties of playing a heroine in popular movies.
She talked about how Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi were her heroes, but she had never imagined dressing in sarees in the icy mountains as they did in their movies. She reminisced about her experience doing the same task for a movie, but she required a pail of hot water beneath her saree to prevent her from shivering.
In conversation with Bhumi, she said, “Oh I will never forget this, I was in a chiffon saree, in Jungfrau, Switzerland, in a green saree. Obviously the guy is dressed in head to toe fur and I am in a blouse and chiffon saree and I was standing in a bucket of hot water for the close-up. And I am saying the lines like this (chattering teeth) and on top of it there is a helicopter above because we are taking a helicopter shot.”
Song details
She was probably referring to Meri Aankhon Mein, a song from her 2005 film Yakeen. She played Arjun Rampal in the film, who wore black leggings and a sweater, and she donned a green saree with a scarcely there top. A peek of what appears to be the bucket under her saree can be seen in the helicopter overhead images.
“My co-actor is trying to keep me warm and there is a hot water bucket under my saree. Not glamour guys, not glamorous. So, for me, the glamour of the movies became recognising my characters, understanding these girls. It looks beautiful, and even now I want to have my hair blowing. The glamour of it was taken away from me very quickly and I just started enjoying the medium of work and the possibility of what you can do with the characters,” she added.
Over the following ten years, Priyanka’s career in Hindi films brought her a lot of success. After relocating to the US, she has been working on Hollywood movies nearly entirely ever since. She joined with Jee Le Zaraa two years ago, and she acted in Shonali Bose’s The Sky is Pink in 2018. However, the movie’s production has still not begun.
