Vladimir Putin has created “Father of all bombs” which has more killing power than US’ “Mother of all bombs” which recently obliterated 90 ISIS militants in Afghanistan.
Pentagon officials earlier confirmed a Massive Ordinance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) – the largest non-nuclear bomb – was dropped on ISIS targets in Afghanistan. Nicknamed as “Mother of all bombs” in a nod to its official acronym, the bomb weighs 21,600lbs.
But Russia’s equivalent named as “Father of all bombs” weighs just 15,560lbs and is packed with the equivalent to 44 tons of explosive TNT. That makes it four times more destructing than the US model that left a crater more than 300 meters wide after the Afghanistan blast.
Shocking footage released by the US defence captured the moment the US dropped the MOAB in combat for the first time. “The strike was designed to minimise risk to Afghan and US Forces,” the department tweeted.
But Putin’s FOAB which is originally named as the Aviation Thermobaric Bomb of Increased Power is reportedly bigger and more destructive than MOAB.
In 2007, Russia tested the FOAB and discovered it had a destruction radius of nearly 1,000 feet. The lethal non-nuclear bomb explodes mid-air, igniting a fuel-air mixture and vaporises targets.
The bomb is so powerful that its result and potential is comparable to nuclear weapons. While MOAB produces 11 tons of TNT from 8 tons of high explosive, FOAB’s blast radius is twice that of MOAB.
The news comes as Rex Tillerson, US secretary of state, said relations between Washington and Moscow are “at a low point”.
