Five people killed after gunmen opened a fire in the Quebec City mosque of Canada during the evening prayers, the mosque president told.
According to a witness, three gunmen opened fire on 40 people in the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center. Police set up a security perimeter around the mosque and comment to comment to reporters on the incident.
“Why is this happening here? This is barbaric,” said Mohamed Yangui, the mosque’s president.
Yangui was not inside the mosque when the incident occurred and said that he received panicky calls from the people of evening prayers.
A pig’s head was left on the doorstep of cultural center in June 2013.
The Islamophobia incidents has increased in Quebec amid the political debate on banning the niqab, or Muslim face covering.
The day after the attack in Paris, a mosque in neighbouring province of Ontario was set on fire in 2015.
