Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji is playing Shivaji Roy, a fearless cop, in the upcoming film Mardaani 2. The actress, dressed in khaki, will fight to end crime against women. The film is a sequel to Mardaani, which was released in 2014. Mardaani 2 is directed by Gopi Puthran and produced by Aditya Chopra which has been scheduled to release on December 13.
The story follows Shivani who goes up against a 21-year-old villain Vishal Jethwa who played the role of a rapist and a serial killer in the film. “Mardaani 2 addresses a huge societal issue of rape and the rise of horrific crimes committed by juveniles in India. Mardaani 2 has been inspired by all such incidents that rocked the country and left us all scarred. The film is being produced by Yash Raj Films, headed by Rani Mukerji’s husband Aditya Chopra. Rani Mukerji, dressed sharply as Shivani Shivaji Roy, can be seen gearing up to take charge of the situation. But the actual surprise is in the final second of the trailer when a bruised and bloody Shivani Shivaji Roy can be seen beating the villain.
Mardaani 2 has an important social message and the entire plan has been built to spread this message as wide, to as many people as possible,” said Rani Mukerji “I’m hoping that the entire nation watches this film because it is inspired by some very disturbing true events that have happened around us.
