One of the complainants in the Ram Rahim rape case is hopeful that she will get justice today. The verdict is expected around 2.30, and the police have cordoned off the court. Meanwhile, Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is travelling in a convoy of more than 500 cars from his headquarters in Haryana’s Sirsa to Panchkula.
According to The Indian Express, the rape victim said: Hamney to Suna hai, ye India hai, yahan aasani se nyay nahi milta hai. aur woh bhi jab ladai ek powerful ke khilaf ho. Paise wala kuch bhi kar sakta hai yahan. (We have heard it’s not easy to get justice in India, especially when the fight is against a powerful person. A person who has money can do anything here).”
She further added that there is a ray of hope and they have trust in the system. They have been fighting for so long to get the justice.
She also applauded officers of the Crime Branch Of India (CBI) and said that they were fortunate that the officers which were handling the case were honest. They investigated the case deeply and did their best to ensure justice for them.
In 2002, an anonymous letter which was addressed to the PM, Haryana CM and Chief Justice of the high court began circulating. A former sadhvi accused Ram Rahim of raping her and other sadhvis and requested for an inquiry. The case was handed over to CBI and after a proper investigation in 2008, rape charges were framed against Ram Rahim.
The complainant said: “My life has changed after I gave the statement. I can’t move freely. There is a danger to my life. I am also apprehensive about lives of my family members.”
Also, the rape victims were pressurized and money was offered to them to change their statements.
