Ravichandran Ashwin, star bowler of Team India, broke Kapil Dev’s 37-year-old record of getting the maximum number of wickets in a home season. Ashwin did so while playing the first cricket Test match of the series against Australia at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Kapil Dev earlier had a mark of 63 wickets in 13 Test cricket matches, in 1979-80.
Ashwin broke former Captain Kapil Dev’s record by clinching 64 wickets in just 10 Test matches while playing at home. He is the fastest Indian bowler to reach the 50-, 100-, 150-, 200-, and 250-wicket mark in Test cricket. After Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, Ashwin is the only Indian cricket player to win the ICC Cricketer of the Year.

In his 45th Test match, Ashwin became the fastest cricket player in the world to pick up 250 test wickets. This record was previously held by Dennis Lillee, having achieved the milestone in 48 Test matches.
This season, Ashwin has taken 27 wickets in three Test matches against New Zealand, 28 in five against England and six in one against Bangladesh.
