Reliance Jio and state-owned BSNL has offered the zero roaming charges and now Airtel has the joined the trend, to lure more customers and keep on the existing users. Roaming on the mobile network will soon happen at no extra cost, telecom companies such as – Airtel, are scrapping the additional charges on outgoing and incoming calls.
India’s biggest telecom company – Airtel announced the ‘Death of National Roaming’. “I am declaring war on roaming”, said Sunil Mittal. The plans will roll out from April 1, the company said.
“Starting April 1, Airtel customers roaming within India will enjoy free incoming calls/SMS and there will be no premium on outgoing calls allowing them to speak freely wherever they are within the country. Also, there will be no additional data charges on national roaming,” said Airtel officials.
BSNL had dropped these additional charges in the middle of 2015, while Reliance Jio did so last September. Vodafone and Idea Cellular already offering some benefits with specially designed ‘roaming-free-packs’. But in the coming days, there are expected to follow Airtel and BSNL.
Airtel’s move follows within days of Reliance Jio charging for its services from April 1. Jio has announced to offer the lowest data tariff and add 20 per cent additional data.
