Tables with a beautiful view
You agree that we go to a restaurant not only to have a delicious meal but also to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere, quality service, and good music. And often the presence of all this turns out to be even more important for the client itself. Therefore, knowing about this human weakness, these restaurants raise the prices of dishes. Say, for example, if the windows of the restaurant overlook the ocean and it’s an amazing view you will pay an average of 10-20 percent more.
Large plates
Have you noticed that restaurants often use large plates? this increases the attractiveness of their dishes. On large plates dishes looks more “solid” and expensive? And the designers claim that the size also emphasizes the importance of the dish and makes it visually appetizing. But there is another side to this effect. Once, experts conducted an experiment in which two groups of people participated. They were fed the same portions of food, but brought it on different plates. It turned out that people who ate from large plates felt hungry at the end of the meal and, as a rule, thought about supplementing. Those who ate from standard-sized plates felt full.
Highlight expensive meals
Another marketing trick is to visually highlight the most expensive items on the menu. Usually, such dishes are placed at the top of the page, accompanied by beautiful photographs, and separated from the rest by a frame or empty space. This position immediately catches the eye of the client, and they wish to order it. Another similar ploy is used to sell a customer a dish that needs to be sold first, such as fish. In such cases, the desired position is placed in the middle of the list.
Unusual food names
Also on the menu, you can often find unusual and even exotic names for the most seemingly ordinary dishes. For example “appetizing wontons with sour cream sauce and herbs” will turn out to be dumplings, and the cold soup ROSSO-NERO will turn out to be a simple beetroot. But you must admit that if the menu had been written like this – “dumplings” and “beetroot”, you would hardly have paid attention to them.
The dish from the chef
Many people mistakenly think that a “chef’s dish” is something incredible that guarantees an explosion of taste but this is partly true – as they offer dishes cooked according to a slightly modified recipe, with the addition of 1-2 ingredients and a price doubled.
Free Snacks
This trick is most often used in bars when they offer you free nuts, crackers, and other goodies with beer. Many people think that this is a kind gesture. But we don’t want to disappoint you. Because the fact is that they are trying to make you feel an increased sense of appetite and thirst because all the snacks are richly processed with salt. And you will probably want to order more drinks, which will definitely benefit the restaurant.
