Close on the heels of the Narsingh Yadav scandal, more dope misery came India’s way when Rio-bound shot putter Inderjeet Singh became the second athlete to test positive for a banned substance.
28-year-old Inderjeet, the reigning Asian Champion, tested positive for a banned steroid and he has been informed by National Anti-Doping Agency. His out-of-competition test was done on 22 June.
“The National Anti-Doping Agency sent a letter to the athletics federation this evening saying Inderjeet had failed a dope test,” a source said. At 34, India was sending its largest-ever athletics contingent to the Olympics and this latest development has created huge doubts in the minds of the international dope-watchers.
