Barely a day after shot-putter Inderjeet Singh’s ‘B’ sample returned positive, Rio Olympics bound 200m sprint runner Dharambir Singh has also failed his dope test, according to a report by NDTV.
Dharambir Singh, who became the first Indian athlete to qualify for the Olympics after 36 years, has not traveled to Rio for the Games after reportedly being told to stay back after failing a drugs test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
It is learnt that the sprinter was scheduled to board the flight to Rio early Tuesday morning but didn’t turn up.
Dharambir could be the third Rio-bound athlete to test positive for a banned drug after shot-putter Inderjeet Singh and wrestler Narsingh Yadav. Narsingh was later cleared to take part in the Games.
Dharambir qualified for Rio at the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru in July. Sources said he was told about the failed test three days back. His timings in practice were erratic, raising suspicion.
