UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to withdraw his stance from an international human rights treaty with an agenda to track and debunk illegal immigration in the country. The UK PM is all set to restrain the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in a bid to repel migrant arrivals, as per a report by Sunday Times.
The UK administration have signaled that 65,000 illegal migrants are expected to arrive in the country this year. As per the latest estimates, illegal immigration in the UK will increase by 50 per cent this year.
Rishi Sunak and Home Secretary Suella Braverman are collaboratively working on stopping the entry of illegal immigration in the country by introducing a fresh immigration legislation which will be out within few weeks, Bloomberg reported.
The duo is intending to withdraw from the ECHR prior to the forthcoming general election if judges in Strasbourg rule that the fresh legislation is unlawful, the Times report stated.
Before signing as the Prime Minister in October previous year, Rishi Sunak has promised to demolish the “broken” asylum systems in the UK and curb the intensity of illegal boat crossings from France. He has proclaimed a a five-step strategy to dwindle the rate of illegal immigration by the end of next year.
