Ryan Gosling is talking openly about the early disapproval he received for playing Ken in the Barbie movie. Ryan Gosling’s age of 42 makes him unfit to play Ken, as many fans have expressed their dissatisfaction.
Ken is “the greatest version of Ryan Gosling ever set on screen,” according to Margot Robbie, who plays Barbie in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie.
Audiences get a preview of how Ryan Gosling’s character Ken chases Barbie on Earth and ends up getting detained alongside her in the movie’s trailer, which had been released earlier this month.
In conversation with with GQ Magazine, when Ryan revealed about playing the character of Ken, “I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with… It is funny, this kind of clutching-your-pearls idea of, like, #notmyken. Like you ever thought about Ken before this? And everyone was fine with that, for him to have a job that is nothing. But suddenly, it’s like, ‘No, we’ve cared about Ken this whole time.’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never f–ked with Ken. That’s the point. If you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed. This is why his story must be told.”
He added, “I care about this dude now. I’m like his representative. ‘Ken couldn’t show up to receive this award, so I’m here to accept it for him.’ ”
Barbie features Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef also including the ensemble of other Barbies, while Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir will be seen playing other Kens. America Ferrera and Will Ferrell are in the garb of human characters. Barbie will hit the theatres on July 21st, 2023.
