Actress Sara Ali Khan describes playing a freedom fighter in the upcoming movie Ae Watan Mere Watan as a difficult and thrilling experience. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the thriller-drama is directed by Kannan Iyer.
Ae Watan Mere Watan, which is based on actual events, is set against the background of the 1942 Quit India Movement and chronicles the daring journey of a Bombay college student who later becomes a freedom fighter.
Usha Mehta, a freedom warrior who was instrumental in using radio to spread news across the nation during the Quit India Movement, is the subject of the movie, according to reports.
Sara claimed that the Amazon Original, which she referred to as a story of courage, tested her as an actor. We refer to her in our movie as a “gumnaam nayak,” or an unnamed warrior, because we don’t know who she is. I view that as a tremendous example of courage, strength, and sacrifice because she gave up so much while remaining an enigma to you.
“All this is prevalent in today’s time or any time. So, it was definitely challenging and exciting too,” thE actor told PTI.
“I am a history student so I know a decent amount about our freedom struggle but I didn’t know about her. And I can imagine there are many people who don’t know about her,” she further added.
In more than 240 nations and territories around the globe, Ae Watan Mere Watan will make its Prime Video debut. The distribution date has not yet been declared by the creators.
