Actor Karthi’s upcoming movie Sardar has set records in the box office, since release. The movie is an action spy thriller which is helmed by PS Mithran. The film managed to collect ₹50 crore overseas, as reported by trade analysts on Tuesday. The actor will be seen playing dual roles of father and his son. Rhis film also marks the fort-ever collaboration of the actor and the director.
“Among the Diwali releases, Sardar has emerged as the box-office winner with a gross of approximately ₹42 crore globally till Monday. With Tuesday being a government declared holiday in Tamil Nadu, the film will comfortably breach the ₹50 crore mark worldwide,” Trinath averred.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, before the release, Karthi addressed the nature of his role in Sardar. “When we talk about spy films, we automatically start thinking of the high-concept films that are made in the west. What we have been missing is our home-grown spy tales and that’s what Mithran is bringing through Sardar,” he said.
Karthi is enjoying a favorable year at the cinemas. He was last seen in Mani Ratnam’s period epic drama Ponniyin Selvan: I which emerged to be the highest-grossing this year in Tamil cinema and altogether the third-highest grossing film in India.
