Satyajit Ray Movies Were As “Real” As “Reality” Itself

Satyajit Ray was Born in Calcutta (1921), he was an Indian Bengali filmmaker widely acclaimed as one of the finest directors of the 20th century. He was a screenwriter, producer, lyricist, Writer, and a composer. Satyajit Ray directed 36 movies in his life, including documentaries , short films. He has won 11 international prizes, 32 Indian National Film awards, Bharat Ratna in 1992, an Academy Honorary Award  also in 1992.

Ray’s first film was Pather Panchali, According to ray “The only solutions that are ever worth anything are the solutions that people find themselves”.

PIKOO

Pikoo was directed by Ray for a french television, France 3. The film is based on one of the short story names ” Pikoo Diary”, written by Ray for his book “Pikoo diary and other short diaries”.

BALA

Bala was shot in 1976, this documentary was based on a Bharata Natyam dancer named Balasaraswati, popularly known as “Bala”, The documentary is 30 minutes and focuses on Bala career as an artist.

TWO

This short film was directed in 1964, there are no dialogues in the film, just picturization. The story focuses on a rich kid’s life and a poor ( Street child)  life. And their encounter through the rich kid window, how the kid teases him, how he spends his entire day doing nothing, child -rivalry, making comparisons.

SIKKIM

Sikkim is a 1971 short film, the documentary was commissioned by the Chogyal King of Sikkim. The film focuses entirely on Sikkim, it was banned earlier but in 2010 the ban was uplifted by ministry of external affairs.
