It is always good to put things straight from the very beginning, which is why we admit right away that Satyamev Jayate is an excruciating film. With its screenplay rolling all over the place, the movie will require infinite number of patience from your side. As per box office collection reports, the movie has already made more than 50 crores in 5 days but for movie critics this flick is a disaster in every possible way.
Just like Milap Milan Zaveri last film “Mastizaade”, Satyamev Jayate is equally mind-wrecking. Milap idea of patriotism is as weird as his sex comedies and he must never try his hand at this genre for a very long time. What really hurt movie critics, including us, is that movies like this are still becoming a hit when we also had something like “Bhavesh Joshi” few months back that no one paid attention to.
With all said and done let’s explore what all is wrong with the movie because honestly, nothing was actually at the right place with this one.
The movie starts with John Abraham setting a man on fire. Yes! You read it right! The movie actually starts with that. Throughout the movie, he is inflicting pain on people by stabbing them, wiping them, and punishing them in all sorts of ways he finds fit. He takes justice in his very own hands because he is a ‘SuperHero/ Vigilante’ in disguise who is there to set everything right. A formula already explored in ‘Gabbar is Back’ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’, is way too tiring to be witnessed over and over again. The only thing that we were not able to understand is what Manoj Bajpayee was doing in this movie? The Gangs of Wasseypur actor played DCP Shivansh Rathod in the movie. John and Manoj were practically playing Tom and Jerry in the entire movie, which is unfortunately hilarious to watch.
At one point , when Manoj Bajpayee gets to understand the master plan of John Abraham’s character, the movie becomes so bad that it becomes unintentionally hilarious. There is no subtlety in the movie and John’s backdrop story explaining why he is on a killing spree does not invoke any empathy in you for the character. He is just killing people because they are corrupt which is actually appalling, given the state of what is the present mentality of our country’s youngsters.
There is almost nothing in the movie for the newbie Aisha Sharma. She plays John’s muse in the movie. As far as emotional empathy is concerned, the entire weight is on John Abraham’s biceps, which is a pity in its own way. The music seems dismal and cinematography is absolutely dull except for the action scenes. The only good thing about this movie is Manoj Bajpayee who desperately tries to make this ludicrous movie somehow work.
