Satyendra Siwal a native of the northern Indian city of Hapur in Uttar Pradesh has been posted at the Embassy since 2021. Has been arrested for being a spy for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)
In a major development, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Uttar Pradesh arrested a man named Satyendra Siwal, who works at the Indian Embassy in Moscow. Originally from Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. This man is accused of being a spy for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He has been working at the Embassy since 2021 in a role called MTS (multi-tasking staff) at the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Anti-Terrorism Squad received information from secret sources that there was a spy from ISI operating in the Embassy. Keeping this point in mind they questioned Siwal, who initially was not able to provide satisfactory answers. Eventually, he admitted to spying and was arrested in Meerut. Siwal misused his position to gather secret documents and share critical information about the Indian Army and its daily operations due to his greed for money. He also passed on important details about the strategic activities of the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of External Affairs, and Indian military establishments to ISI handlers.
Another incident occurred last year in October when a man of Pakistani origin, who had become an Indian citizen in 2005. He was caught spying on Indian defense personnel through WhatsApp. The person, Labhshankar Maheshwari, was involved in sending spyware to the WhatsApp accounts of Indian defense personnel under the guise of a fake ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. This campaign pretended to encourage every Indian household to display the national flag. He was finally charged under various sections of the law. Related to revealing information with the intent to support activities against the government and conspiracy to wage war against the government.
ISI’s nefarious plans
It’s not hidden from anyone that the ISI has a history of trying to fall into Indian bureaucratic systems with its spies. Apart from placing informers, the ISI also works on promoting separatism in India and abroad. Reports from last year revealed that the ISI was funding activities supporting Khalistani separatism in Canada.
