Prime minister Narendra Modi last Friday inaugurated the parliament building in Kabul which India built.The Old parliament of Afghanistan was blown up by Taliban in 2007.
The new building is built at a budget of 710 crores.It’s construction started in 2009 , missed it’s completion deadline 3 times and has gone over budget.Its budget was around 350 crores.
It’s based on mughal and modern architecture and boasts of a majestic dome that is largest in Asia.
It’s foundation stone was laid by Manmohan Singh in 2009.The project was started to promote peace and friendship among the two nations.It has two houses – House of people (Wolesi Jirga) can seat 256 members and a Upper house (Meshrano Jirga) that can seat 134 people.
During his speech Modi said ” “This parliament complex is a small tribute to your progress as a nation and a democracy. It will stand as an enduring symbol of the ties of emotions and values, of affection & aspirations that bind us in a special relationship.” Here are a few pics from the inaugration ceremony.

In the parliament building, one part of the building is also named after former prime minister Atal bihari vajpayee.
