Serena Williams Wins Australian Open, Set A Grand Slam Record

In a much talked about tennis court battle of Williams sisters, Serena won the crown. Yes, Serena Williams beats her sister Venus Williams and set a record. She won her 7th Australian Open singles title and become the no. 1 player in the world rankings. She beats Venus, her elder sister by the set of 6-4, 6-4.

Her great sibling rivalry win also gave her a 23rd Grand Slam singles title. She also breaks her tie with Steffi Graf for the most singles titles in the Open era and putting her within one victory of Margaret Court’s all-time record of 24.

With this victory, Serena Williams won the 10th major singles title since turning 30, and she has broken her own record, which she set at Wimbledon last year. She is the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam singles title in the Open era. Her sister Venus, 36, became the oldest finalist in Grand Slam singles in the Open era.
