This year, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar will commemorate their 39th wedding anniversary. On December 9th, 1984, the pair was hitched. The actor said that she and Javed’s positive connection has endured over time in large part because they are friends at heart and hold similar values. Shabana recently recounted how the seasoned lyricist surprised her with a lovely gesture for her 50th birthday, despite the fact that she has also said that he is not amorous at heart.
In conversation to Pinkvilla, Shabana said, “I am not one to put any value on expensive gifts at all. But sometimes he does very beautiful things. There was a sculpture of Salvador Dali that I liked very much in London. He said, ‘Let’s get it.’ I said, ‘No no, it’s too expensive’ and left it. Then I think on my 50th birthday, I found in my bedroom that sculpture with his poem Waqt, which was written in a very beautiful letter. He had gone through such limits that I shouldn’t get to know (about the surprise). That was what touched me, the effort he put into it. Otherwise, I don’t value gifts of that kind.”
What’s Love Got to Do with It?, the actor’s most recent movie, is presently playing in theatres. Shekhar Kapur, who directed her in Masoom (1983), returns to work with her on the English film, which also stars Lily James and Emma Thompson. She portrays the mother Aisha, a British-Asian who arranges for her son Kazim (Shazad Latif) to marry a Pakistani woman. The movie also stars Sajal Aly.
Later this year, Shabana will also appear in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani from Karan Johar. Along with Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, and Dharmendra, she appears in the movie.
