The Income Tax department has attached the Alibaug farmhouse of actor Shah Rukh Khan under the new Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amended Act, 2016. It has been claimed that SRK bought the area with the request that he wants to do farming over that place but ended up constructing a farmhouse there for personal use.
“Spread over 19,500 sq ft, the property has a circle rate of Rs. 146.7 million. SRK has to reply to the action in 90 days.”
An I-T investigator said: “The said transaction falls under the definition of “benami transaction as per the Section 2 (9) of the PBPT Act, where Deja Vu Farms has acted as benamidar for the ultimate benefits of SRK. Thus, the actor is a beneficiary for the said under the prescribed law.”
Gauri Khan’s father Ramesh Chibba, her mother Savita Chibba and her sister Namita Chibba are directors of Deja Vu Farms, the company who took up the land for agricultural purposes but never used for that.
SRK through Deja Vu Farms, made an application for purchase of agriculture land for farming and Deja Vu Farms has shown only an income of Rs. 84.5 million, which was an unsecured loan given by Khan to the company.
