A Mumbai trader named Prithviraj Saremal Kothari accused them of wrongdoing, but the couple denied it and said that they were not into any offense. Today, June 26, they released an official statement through their lawyer, Prashant Patil.

The trader, Kothari, filed a complaint against them in 2022. But soon after the police conducted a thorough investigation they found that year Kothari received the entire Rs 90 lakh he claimed through legal means.
Their lawyer made a statement claiming that Shilpa and Raj were innocent. He said “My clients bonafidely submitted these documents to the police department. After finding out the truth of the matter, the police delivered justice to my clients,” Despite this, Kothari filed another private complaint in court under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Two years later, the court then directed the police to reopen the investigation.
Commitment to Legal Process
Shilpa and Raj expressed confidence in a fair investigation and believed the truth would come out. They emphasized that they have not committed any crime, as proven by the documents they possess. The statement also mentioned that the contract with Kothari included an arbitration clause, which means any disputes should be resolved through arbitration, not criminal proceedings.
The statement criticized the use of criminal proceedings to settle commercial disputes, citing numerous Supreme Court and High Court judgments. Shilpa and Raj are prepared to fight this battle legally and they said that they will sue Kothari for malicious intentions at the appropriate time.
