Actor Sidharth Malhotra signed a biopic recently, in which he will play the role of Kargil War Hero Captain Vikram Batra. Vikram got martyred in India-Pakistan Kargil war 1999. Vikram was also awarded with India’s highest military decoration award Param Vir Chakra for displaying distinguished acts of valour during wartime.
Pakistan’s Army got thrilled from his courage that’s why they used to call him Sher Shah (Lion King). His last mission was to rescue an injured Army Officer and he was commanding that mission.
Who is Captain Batra?
Captain Vikram Batra, the bravest heart was born in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh on September 9, 1974. His father’s name was Girdhari Lal Batra and mother’s name was Kamla Batra. He had a twin brother named Vishal. After completing his school he moved to Chandigarh for further studies. In 1995, while still in college, he got a call to join merchant navy at a shipping company headquartered in Hong Kong, but ultimately he changed his mind, telling his mother that “Money is not everything in life; I have to do something bigger in life, something great, something extraordinary, which may bring fame to my country.”
In 1996, he passed the CDS examination and subsequently received a call for an interview at the Services Selection Board (SSB) at Allahabad and got selected. He became Lieutenant and lead 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. Captain Vikram Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour on 15 August 1999.
Yeh Dil Maange More!
He was assigned the task of capturing Point 5140 of Kargil and after some hours of firing, he accomplished the mission. After accomplishing the mission, Batra radioed his command post, saying the words “Yeh Dil mange more!”. This is where these lines got recognition. In his next mission to capture Point 4875, Batra realized that one of his men got brutally injured, toward the safer side and taking his place instead, saying: “You have a family and children to go back to, I’m not even married.
He was shot in the head and in the chest by the enemy while rescuing his mate and the bravest heart of mother India went down in glory!
