The singer Papon, whose real name is Angaraag Mahanta, was scheduled to perform at Imperfecto Shor in Delhi on Friday, but he has canceled his upcoming stage show to be held in Delhi.
Papon posted on Thursday “Dear Delhi, I am very sorry but I have decided not to do the concert tomorrow at ‘Imperfecto Shor’ as planned! My home state Assam is burning, crying and under curfew! I won’t be able to entertain you the way I should in my present state of mind,” he also added “I know this is unfair on you as you had bought tickets and planned long ahead. I am sure the organizers will take care of that in some way and as promised I’ll see you all on another day in the future! I hope you will understand,”
Papon has apologized to the fans, saying that he cannot perform because his home state Assam is burning. Papon has canceled Delhi shows at the last minute. Papon tweeted one after the other, writing, “I have decided not to perform.” Dear Delhi, I am sad. But I will not be able to do the concert tomorrow. My home state is burning, crying and under Curfew so right now my mind is disturbed. In this situation how will I be able to entertain the audience? Papon further wrote that’ I know it is too much with you. You’ve bought tickets and planned for a long time. I’m sure the show’s organizers will take care of this. I promise you that I will come back to you in the future’. I hope you will understand this.
Ever since the Citizenship (Amendment), Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday midnight the entire Northeast, especially Assam, has been witnessing violent protests. Papon further wrote on his twitter, “It’s painful to see the way Assam is burning! Humanity is suffering! Assam has been burdened with illegal immigration for decades! We don’t deserve this! The diverse, complex mix of the Assamese culture & people and their existence needs to be understood! We need to be heard properly,”
