Who was Sir John Tenniel?
Born on 28 February 1820 in Bewasseter, West London, Sir John Tenniel today marks his 200th birthday. Govt awarded him the title of ‘Knight‘ in the year 1893 for his achievements in the field of art. We remember Tenniel particularly for his magazine of major political cartoonists for more than 50 years.
He had made the characters of Lewis Carroll’s Timeless Alice in Wonderland series alive through the illustrator and painting art. For which he is famous worldwide. He then drew a 16-foot-high cartoon for a competition to be planted in the new Palace of Westminster. For which he received 100 euros. Sir John Tenniel died in the month of February in the year 1914.
