Singer Sona Mohapatra had grabbed headlines when she accused singer-composer Kailash Kher of sexual misconduct, she had also alleged music composer Anu Malik of sexually harassing her in front of her husband musician Ram Sampath. According to her, he made a lewd comment and called her ‘Maal’. He didn’t know that Ram and she were married. Singer Shweta Pandit also accused Anu Malik of sexual misconduct when she was a teenager.
Now, Sonu Nigam recently lent his support to Anu Malik even though singers Sona Mohapatra and Shweta Pandit accused him of sexual harassment. Sonu came forward to defend Malik, saying,
“If you say, ‘Anu Malik met me this morning’, that’s fine. You accused him without any proof; let’s accept that too. Had he [Anu Malik] wanted to say anything, he could have said a lot. But he did not. If I say that you misbehaved with me, you will ask me for proof. But there’s no proof, right? Despite that, people are respecting the accusers, who are tarnishing Anu Malik’s name. But how can you ban him? How can you snatch his bread and butter? How can you torture his family?”
Well, these comments of Sonu didn’t go down well with singer Sona Mohapatra and she backlashed him on Twitter. She wrote on Twitter, “So much sympathy for a millionaire losing work? So much empathy for his privileged family being ‘tortured’? How about the scores of girls & women he tortured? Multiple testimonies not proof enough?”
In no time, Sonu hits back at her. He took to Facebook and wrote, “The respectable lady vomiting on Twitter, is the wife of someone who I consider very close to me, so although she has forgotten the relationship, I’d like to maintain the decorum.”
Anu Malik has been accused of sexual harassment by several women, including Mohapatra herself, singer Shweta Pandit, Indipop singer Alisha Chinai and two other women who have chosen to remain anonymous.
