Ace director Sooraj Barjatya recently revealed some insights about the blockbuster hit movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun which emerged as a massive box office success back then in 1994. However, despite standing out from the cue the film kicked off roughly in which its was on the brink of commercial failure.
The film marked Sooraj’s second directorial work which featured Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Behl, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, and Reema Lagoo in the pivotal roles. The film was helmed with a moderate budget of ₹6 crore. The film earned a meagre collection of ₹29 lakh in its first weekend in India.
Speaking to Indian Express, Sooraj reminisced, “Maine Pyaar Kiya was a surprise box office hit while Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! didn’t take off well. We had huge expectations, but the film took off only after four days.”
He added, “I learnt it very early with Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! because I thought I had made the greatest film, but when we had the premiere people were not liking it! I clearly remember the audience walking out with every song! I thought I had made a good but then I started wondering, ‘Ye kya hogaya’ (what has happened).”
At the fourth day, the film took off well with the cooperation and support of people the film was unstoppable earning a gross of more than ₹100 crore in India alone and double the amount overseas. Sooraj’s new film Uunchai which launched this Friday have been performing quite well at the theaters.
