Kangana Ranaut slams Zohran Mamdani over old protest video criticizing BJP and Babri Masjid Demolition
Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has just fought back bitterly against political theorist Mahmood Mamdani and film director Mira Nair after her son, Zohran Mamdani, has dug his teeth so far into the current government in the state of New York and run for, and won, the post of a New York desk officer. In an old video, Zohran, the current political figure in the U.S who has been titled as a Democratic nominee to the Mayor of New York City, is captured protesting against the Indian government.
In a video, Zohran is depicted standing alongside Sikh protesters in New York City and saying something negative about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and mentioning the fact that Babri Masjid was destroyed, which is a very loose criterion and a controversial activity in the Indian history. This video once reappeared on the Internet and brought innumerable responses, mainly the outraged ones, on the part of BJP supporters.

One of the strongest reactions came from Kangana Ranaut, who is now a Member of Parliament from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh and a multiple National Award-winning actress. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her disappointment and anger over Zohran’s statements in the video. Kangana reacted to Zohran and said that she felt shocked to listen to his views, and also claimed that Zohran happens to be closer to the Pakistani ideologies as compared to the Indian ideologies. I can hear the Indian coming up, but she wrote he is more Pakistani.
She even lashed out against his parents, particularly his mother Mira Nair, who is an Indian born respected filmmaker who has been conferred with the Padma Shri. Kangana pointed out that Mira grew up and was born in India and got married to a political thinker, Mahmood Mamdani, whose origins are Gujrati. It was stated that their son Zohran had lost his faith in Hinduism, which Kangana found very alarming. Sarcastically, she said, On a different note, I have met Mira ji a few times- congratulations to the parents, meaning she was disappointed at how their son turned out, who is Indian and famous
Kangana said in her post:
His mother is Mira Nair, our finest filmmaker, Padma Shri awardee, a dear Bharat (India) daughter, and resident of New York. She got married to Mahmood Mamdani, an award-winning Gujarati writer. They have a son named Zohran. He speaks as a Pakistani rather than an Indian. Where is his Hindu heritage or blood? Now he is willing to scrub Hinduism. Wow! It is the story all over.”
The response of Kangana was in connection with the renewed video clip in which Zohran is pictured being used in actively participating in the anti-BJP protests and expressing his objection over the Babri Masjid issue. Zohran, a BJP sympathiser, posted the video, saying Zohran had left a group of protestors chanting slogans in Times Square and allegedly spewed abuses at Hindus and Lord Ram, a revered deity in Hinduism. The words in the original post where the video was posted were rude and violent. It said that Zohran had abused Hindus and insulted Lord Ram.
