A man stated that it was all because of a spider that he recently had to see a doctor after spending his 35th wedding anniversary on a cruise in France. After checking it, the ship’s doctor informed him that a spider was the reason for his toe becoming purple over night.
According to Colin Blake, the doctor explained that a Peruvian wolf spider was the reason for his toe’s swelling (BBC). He further mentioned that the medical staff used a scalpel to cut the skin on his diseased toe. Blake reported that a pus that resembled white milk emerged from the region, and that pus contained eggs.
However, a specialist questioned a spider’s capacity to lay eggs inside a human, “I can’t possibly see how it could be true at all because I know about their biology,” Dr Sara Goodacre from the University of Nottingham mentioned in conversation with BBC.
“[The egg sacs] take quite a while to spin. The spider venom is not necrotising, it is designed to paralyse a fruit fly. There is no European wolf spider that could really penetrate the skin,” she further added.
