The box office for Shah Rukh Khan’s movie Jawan is off to an incredible start. The Atlee movie, which featured Shah Rukh in six distinct roles, made history by becoming the Hindi film with the biggest opening weekend revenue of 129 crore. Despite the movie’s popularity on social media, many fans have pointed out how much the plot of the movie resembles that of another movie. Many people have claimed that the narrative of Jawan and the 1989 Tamil film Thaai Naadu are remarkably similar.
A user claimed on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Atlee had plagiarised the narrative of the 1989 Tamil film Thaai Naadu (motherland), in which Sathyaraj played a dual role similar to Shah Rukh’s father and son figures in Jawan. A person uploaded the movie poster for the 1989 R. Aravindraj flick with the statement, “Jawaan Original Tamil Version – 1989.”
Atlee has been accused of plagiarising previously as well. Bigil, a 2019 movie directed by Atlee, was the subject of controversy after Telugu short filmmaker Nandi Chinni Reddy claimed that Atlee had stolen the essence of his movie Slum Soccer. The 2017 movie by Atlee, which starred Thalapathy Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the key roles, was also accused of stealing the plot from Rajinikanth’s Moondru Mugam. While Atlee’s 2016 film Theri appeared in theatres, he was once more charged with ripping off Vijaykanth’s Chatriyan.
Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, and Ridhi Dogra are among the notable actors who appear in Jawan. In Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, it was made available in theatres.
