Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the state police to celebrate the Janmashtami festival in a grand way just a few days after a horrific tragedy in a Gorakhpur hospital happened. Almost 72 children have died in Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College Hospital since August 7 due to the lack of oxygen supply.
ANI quoted Adityanath as saying on Monday, which is reported by Deccan Chronicle, “Bhavvyata aur shaleenta se is baar manayen Janmashtami, Bhartiya sanskriti ke anusaar ho is varsh ka aayojan. (Celebrate Janmashtami in a grand and decent way, and follow the Indian tradition).”
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) has further directed the chief minister’s order to all police officers in different districts of the state.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice DY Chandrachud has denied to take suo motu cognisance of deaths of children.
Also, according to The Indian Express, AAP spokesman Vaibhav Maheshwari criticized the Yogi government, “This is ironical, tragic and in some ways reflective of the mindset of powers that be… They will go ahead with their agenda even in the wake of tragedies of such magnitude.”
