In year 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice really kicked off the DC Extended Universe. The film immediately showed what the intention was: to introduce the Justice League members, with of course for Batman and Superman, but also Wonder Woman and briefly Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg.
The film was not quite the success it was hoped for. Where some of the films from Marvel Studios already managed to find the billion at the time, that limit was not crossed by the great DC film. Reception was too weak, and the revenue, at $ 873.6 million, reportedly wasn’t what Warner Bros. expected of it.
