In the upcoming television series Taali, transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant will be played by Bollywood star Sushmita Sen in a never-before-seen role.The show’s teaser, which debuted today, promises an inspiring tale of bravery and Sushmita excels as Shreegauri.
The difficulties and humiliation Shreegauri encountered before deciding to confront the system are shown in the trailer. Sushmita gives a powerful performance, and a lot of the passion is shown in her eyes. Particularly in a scenario where she says, “Gauri aa gayi (Gauri has arrived)” while recovering from surgery in the hospital. This instance exemplifies Sushmita’s suitability for the position.
The official synopsis read, “Gauri aa gayi hai. Apne swabhimaan, sammaan aur swatantrata ki kahaani lekar. #Taali – Bajayenge nahi, bajwayenge!”
Internet users complimented Sushmita Sen for her commitment and adored the clip. A supporter wrote, “Sushmita Sen is a phenomenon…what a journey from winning miss universe to Taali.” Another added, “Only She could do justice to this role.”
Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust was founded by Shreegauri Sawant, a native of Pune, Maharashtra.Her battles helped the Supreme Court recognise transgender people as the third gender in 2014. She was one of the petitioners in the NALSA lawsuit, which was filed in 2013.
The online series was conceived by Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar and is directed by national award-winning filmmaker Ravi Jadhav. JioCinema will begin broadcasting Taali on August 15.
