Tam was defeated by Nikhat 5-0. She succeeds the illustrious MC Mary Kom as the only other Indian to have won the coveted title twice.

The Women’s World Championships semifinal winners here on Thursday, Nikhat Zareen (50 kg) and Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg), both proceeded to the final. The bronze medalist from the Rio Olympics, Ingrit Valencia of Colombia, was outpunched by Nikhat 5-0, while Nitu edged out Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan 5-2.
The tournament will be channelised from March 15 to 26 at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex. Tokyo bronze medallist, Borgohain (75kg) holds two world championships bronze medals and will be collaborating with other prominent Olympic medallists in the path to victory.
