The Teacher who claimed “female students who showed the chief examiner their cleavage will get better grades” has been struck off.

Rob Myers who touched student’s arms and hands inappropriately, also called a female student a “s***” at Wensleydale School and Sixth Form, in Yorkshire. The 57-year-old told pupils that low cut tops teased him, referred to “10 naked virgins” when discussing attendance and also compared one student’s work to “soft-porn”, the panel heard.

The panel of the National College for Teaching and Leadership heard that he told pupils to call him “Rob” or “Baldy”, chatted to them on personal relationships and shared emails to a teenager about night out in Newcastle.

The panel heard how he touched three different students on their hands and arms and took some for a movie without the knowledge and approval of the school. Students complained that his behaviour made them feel uncomfortable and disgusted and one told that she was demotivated such extent that she considered abandoning her studies.

Myers denied telling pupils to show off their cleavage for better marks or said don’t come to the next lesson with low cut tops as you are teasing me. He also denied that after reading one pupil’s work he said: “This is like soft porn, are you trying to get me off? It’s really good.” He denied to various allegations against him but all were proven.

He admitted using inappropriate language while discussing attendance and making reference to “10 naked virgins” on his part. But Myers defended himself saying “I am only a man, you can’t blame me,” and blamed students of having “dirty minds”.

The panel revealed that on one occasion he told a pupil that she needed a  “fella to sort her out”. The panel further found that he displayed unacceptable professional conduct and brought the profession into disrepute and “displayed conduct which is fundamentally incompatible with being a teacher”.

Given these findings, there is a strong public interest consideration in respect of protection of pupils. So he has been banned indefinitely with an extended review period of four years to allow him to reflect on his conduct.
