A French soldier opened fired on a man armed with a knife who shouted “Allahu Akbar’ as he tried to attack him while entering a shopping center next to the famous Louvre museum in Paris, France.
One soldier injured in the attack and the knifeman was shot five times and is alive despite the injuries.
Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve termed the attack “terrorist in nature” and said-:
“The people who were in the museum — there were about 250 of them — were held at a distance and confined in secure areas of the Louvre, We will start taking them out in small groups.”
City police chief Michel Cadot confirmed that two backpacks carried by the attacker did not contain any explosives. France is less than three months away from the presidential election and issues like terrorism and security are major ones.
Also, France has been hit by a serious of attacks over the past two years that have killed more than 230 people and all the attacks have been claimed by the Islamic State. The most recent attack took place in the city of Nice killing 86 people.
